    Virtual Oral Health Improvement Training:

    Supporting adults and children with additional needs

    Wednesday 6th May 2026 at 2pm – 4pm

    The NHS Oral Health Improvement Team would like to invite you to attend a virtual Oral Health Improvement Training session on Teams.

    This session is hosted by our Oral Health Improvement team and we have been commissioned by Devon County Council and the NHS to provide FREE training aimed at anyone who works with or supports people with additional needs within Devon (excluding Plymouth and Torbay).

    Here is some information about what will be included (but not limited to) in the session:

    1. The consequences of poor oral health
    2. Diet and its impact on the teeth and gums
    3. Causes, symptoms and how to preent tooth decay
    4. Techniques and support for helping people of all abilities to maintain good oral hygiene.

    Once you have booked on to our session you will receive an email with the Microsoft Teams Link on it and details about how and when to join.

    Please register to be trained with us and each attendee will receive a CPD certificate upon completion of the post-training feedback.

  • KREMPEL Industries Factory Site Visit

    A group of students had the opportunity to visit KREMPEL Industries' factory site in Bideford in the autumn term. Considering nobody had heard of KREMPEL before our visit, it was surprising to find out how important the business is to Bideford as a major employer. 

     

    The factory is part of the KREMPEL group who have offices all over the world. They manufacture very high-end engineering pieces for all sorts of equipment, from aerospace, defence and medical to automotive and industry. They specialise in composite and polymer products. 

     

    It was fascinating to see the machinery and level of technology being used by the 100+ employees. The products are shipped from Bideford around the globe. 

     

    The group learnt about some of the materials and processes. We are very grateful to KREMPEL for guiding us around the factory.

  • School Visits Swansea City to watch a Championship Match

    A group of 6 Marland students were lucky enough to visit the Swansea.com Stadium to watch the Championship match between Swansea and Preston. The match was entertaining, with a last-minute goal for Swansea, earning them a 1-1 draw. Our visit coincided with the visit of Swansea investor, Actor and rapper, Snoop Dogg! As a thank you to the fans, Snoop Dogg gave every fan a commemorative towel, which he encouraged all the home supporters to wave on his arrival. 

    The lads represented the school really well and were really thankful to be given the opportunity. Massive thanks goes to James and Steve for sorting the tickets, and to Josh for organising the day.

  • Visit to Combe Martin Silver Mine ​​​​​​​

    A group from Marland School, Roundswell, had the opportunity to step back in time at the Combe Martin Silver Mines in December. Combe Martin mines have been worked for nearly 1,000 years and have been nationally important during various stages in history. The silver mined from them has helped to support the monarchy on several occasions. 

    There are several miles of known mine, but many of the adits (an 'adit' is a horizontal access tunnel cut into the rock and is used to access the mine shafts)  and passageways are blocked by water and debris, so only a small portion is currently accessible. 

    The group were met by a couple of the Mine Society volunteers and were given a bit of background and some safety equipment (helmets and lights). They were then led into the main adit and travelled underground for several hundred metres. 

    The most striking thing was the incredible formations of stalactites and calcite deposits on the ceiling and walls. Deep shafts were visible, disappearing into the darkness. At one point, we all turned our head-torches off to experience total, pitch darkness. 

    The visit was fascinating, and the first time most of the pupils had been deep underground. You can find out more about the mines on Facebook by searching 'Combe Martin Silver Mines'.
